Extremadura has not stolen its name. This part of central Spain has been a long time the poorest area of Spain. Life under the scorching sun is extremely hard. Today, however, Extremadura is considered to be one of the best destinations for birding in Southern Europe. Typical for the Extremadura region are the dehesa, a unique landscape of open, oak-filled forests and grasslands, full of life!

Extremadura is especially famous for its large numbers of birds of prey, with species like Golden Eagle, Spanish Imperial Eagle, Bonelli's Eagle, Short-toed Eagle and Booted Eagle.
Not to be missed are the large numbers of Griffon Vultures.

it is the dehesas that enhanced the maintenance of an extraordinarily high biodiversity.
